Wuhan Fiberhome Mobile Communication Begins Operation
October 26, 2007
Wuhan Fiberhome Mobile Communication, a joint venture between NEC and China-based WRI (Wuhan Research Institute of Post and Telecommunications) established in 2005, has finally kicked off operation in October 2007.

Serving as a gateway for NEC to make inroads into the Chinese TD-SCDMA market, the joint venture will be playing an important role in WRI's 3G operation, including wireless access, indoor coverage solution, and value-added services. In the past, WRI's 3G development was handled by its subsidiary Beijing WRI. After the establishment of Wuhan Fiberhome Mobile Communication, the company will take over TD-SCDMA and other 3G business, with Beijing WRI focusing merely on WCDMA.

It is expected that WRI will transfer 200 employees to the joint venture from Beijing WRI, and NEC will offer manpower support as well.
